I also have a Diamond PCI sound card installed if thats of any consequence. I mention this because I have no noise except the noise Im making through this mixer. Many others have had that problem a hum or a buzz which is why I am mentioning it. Maybe I just lucked out or my computer set up has something to do with it. Someone who was troubleshooting the noise issue was nice enough to post his findings. That he had better results with the ASIO4. All drivers. But I am using the drivers that came with this and have no noise problem. The audio is crisp and clear on the vocals. I use 2 XLR mics and bought 2 XLR wires since my mics came with a 14 plug rather than the XLR plug on the bottom. Wasnt really necessary since the sound was the same through the XLR and the 14 inch inputs but, since channel 1 and 2 have both an XLR and a 14 inch jack input for each channel, I can plug the mic into the XLR socket, and the guitar into the 14 inch input simultaneously and, surprisingly, it worked. I was surprised that it did, since I was told that you couldnt plug in 2 things to the same channel. Im still new at it so, I havent really made a compare test with the guitar plugged into the same channel as the mic or how it sounds when plugged into its own channel but anyhow, its just nice to know I can do that. Im still working on a good sound for my acoustic guitar. Even if I plug it into its own channel, I dont like the way it sounds when I strum. It sounds great when I finger pick but the strum sound is blurry and muddy but thats an issue I have with my guitar amp too so its most likely not the Alesiss fault and may very well be mine. I could mic the guitar to solve that issue rather than a direct feed. Anyhow, my one complaint is that, channel 3 and 4 do not have equalizers for either channel which is why I took off 1 star as do channels 1 and 2 which each have their own. AND, there is only 1 pan knob for both channels 3 and 4 unlike channel 1 and 2 that each have their own pan knob. I set one mic to the far left and the other mic to the far right and get a very nice wide stereo sound on the vocals. I am very happy with this mixer. Oh yeah, the body of the Alesis Multi. Mix. 4 is metal and not plastic. It also has a power switch which a few of the mixers I was looking at didnt. But heres a caution about the power switch. It does not effect the way the computer relates to the Alesis. Even when the Alesis is powered off, it is still recognized as the active sound card by the computer until you unplug the Alesis from the USB port. Heres how I found out the HARD way Last week, I took a break from recording and decided to watch a movie on my PC. Amway Show The Plan Pdf. I shut off the power of the Alesis but I did not unplug the Alesis from the USB port. I then went into Sounds and selected my sound card as the playback device so I could watch the movie using my computer speakers. I got no sound from my speakers so I rebooted and still had no sound. Turns out my sound card drivers had to be reinstalled all over again a real pain since I had to hunt them down over at the Diamond website and download them And then, when I plugged in the Alesis after that reboot, it was once again recognized as a new device and it too had to reinstall its drivers. I wrote tech support and they offered no answer for me as to why it happened. So, best bet, unplug the Alesis from the USB port if you want to use your sound card for anything since, even when you power off the Alesis, it still is acknowledged by your computer as the active sound card until you unplug it from the USB port.
